Question: What is Power Peel (Microdermabrasion)?

Answer: Power peel is a method of enhancing and maintaining the healthy appearance of the skin through exfoliation. The method was first introduced in France before making its way to this country. It involves the use of tiny aluminum oxide crystals which are bombarded on the skin surface with pressurized air. The procedure is particularly effective for treatment of acne scars, pregnancy mask, melasma, age spots, and fine wrinkles.

Question: Is it painful?

Answer: No. The mild form of microdermabrasion requires no anesthesia. The intermediate form is easily tolerated with the application of topical anesthetic ointment.

Question: How long does the procedure take?

Answer: The usual facial power peel treatment requires thirty to forty five minutes.

Question: How long is the recovery? Time off work?

Answer: Since power peel is a mild and non invasive procedure, the majority of patients can return to work immediately with no down time. It is the ultimate “lunchtime” peel.

Question: When can I apply make-up?

Answer: Make-up can be applied 24 hours following the procedure. Immediately after the power peel treatment the facial skin is covered with moisturizers and sunblock.

Question: How many treatments are required?

Answer: The number of treatments vary depending on the individual and the condition being treated. Superficial blemishes require only a few treatments, whereas acne scars and age spots may require several treatments.

Question: Are there any risks involved?

Answer: There are no serious risks. The most frequent side effect is blotching or hyperpigmentation of the skin. To prevent that we recommend application of bleaching creams and sunblock. Hyperpigmentation is the natural response of the skin to an external stimulus such as microdermabrasion or light peel. This side effect is both preventable and manageable.

P.S.-Patients with previous history of fever blisters should be seen by the physician and should receive antiviral medication prior to, and during the power peel treatments.

Question: What areas of the body can be treated?

Answer: Virtually any area of the skin will benefit from treatment with exfoliative microdermabrasion. The most frequently treated area is the face followed by the neck, shoulders, hands and other areas of the body.

Question: How much does it cost?

Answer: The cost of a single power peel treatment for the face is $125.The ultra peel, which is a combination of power peel with a mild lactic acid peel, is $195.00. A series of treatments in the form of a package will reduce the price per treatment.

Question: How long should the treatments be continued?

Answer: The frequency of treatments varies with each individual. In certain situations power peel is recommended every ten days whereas in other instances, it is recommended every three to four weeks. There is recent medical evidence indicating a beneficial effect to repeated treatments. Layers of dead cells are removed and this stimulates the body into production of new cells in the epidermis of the skin. There is evidence that the treatments stimulate production of collagen in the dermis of the skin.

PERMANENT MAKE-UP

Question: What is permanent make-up?

Answer: It is a procedure whereby medical pigment is inserted into certain areas of the skin of the face to enhance the color. The three most frequently treated areas are the eyebrows, the eyelids at the lash line, the mouth and lip line. It virtually eliminates the need for application of eyeliner on a daily basis. It is also applicable for people with hand tremors who are unable to apply the make-up effectively.

Question: Is the procedure painful?

Answer: No, the procedure is performed in the office under the supervision of a physician. Patients receive local anesthesia as well as sedation.

Question: What is the recovery time?

Answer: For a few days following the treatment, there is a certain degree of swelling and bruising, which is to be expected. The bruising can be minimized by the intake of herbal supplements such as Arnica Montana. Patients should also refrain from taking aspirin, Ibuprofen, vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, as well as blood thinners. Medications which reduce the swelling will be prescribed.

Question: What about the need for touch-ups?

Answer: After the swelling subsides, additional details become visible and on occasion touch-ups with additional pigmentation may be required.

Question: How can I be sure that I am getting the right color?

Answer: As aestheticians, we take extreme care to mix the right color to match your existing hair color to that of the eyebrows or eyeliners. The same applies to matching the desired color for the lips and lip liner. The process is always meticulous, time consuming and detail oriented. It is particularly designed to address your needs and your expectations.

Question: How much does it cost?

Answer: The costs vary from one individual to another depending on the time required to mix the right colors. In general the cost for eyebrow enhancement with permanent make-up, including local anesthesia and sedation, varies from $350.00 to $550.00. The fee for upper and lower eyelids is $550.00, for permanent lip liner and lip enhancement the cost is $650.00.

MILD PEELS

Question: What types of peels are available?

Answer: In addition to power peel, lactic acid or Jessener's solution can be used to achieve the desired effect. Buffered TCA peel is one other method effective for rejuvenating the skin of the neck, shoulders and chest area. This peel requires repeated treatments usually every four to six weeks. It is mild and does not require any sedation. There is essentially no down time or interruption of work schedule.

P.S.- A private consultation is recommended to determine what peel is best suited for your specific needs.

Question: What is endermologie?

Answer: Endermologie is a French technique designed to improve and tone certain areas of the body with cellulite and moderate excess fat. It involves the use of a machine, which firmly massages the skin and the underlying fat and cellulite with external suction. Anesthesia is not required and the procedure is well tolerated with little discomfort. Repeated treatments are recommended every two to three weeks .

Question: What is ultrasound?

Answer: External ultrasonic treatment (ultrasound) is a method of effecting change in a particular area of the body with cellulite, stretch marks, or a combination of the two. This will improve the skin tone as well as change the structure of the underlying fat. It involves the use of an external device which emits ultrasonic waves conducted through a gel for rapid penetration through the skins surface. The procedure may be combined with the endermologie and is usually effective for areas such as the buttocks and the thighs.

Repeated treatments are recommended. These can be performed as frequently as once a week and the length of the treatment can extend several months. It has to be emphasized that this treatment is intended as an aid in improving a particular area of the body. It is not designed as a substitute for more effective methods such as liposuction or liposculpture.

Question: What skin care products should I use?

Answer: When you schedule your private consultation with us, you will receive a personalized plan for facial skin rejuvenation and maintenance treatments. These involve the use of lotions, creams, bleaching agents combined with alpha hydroxy acids, glycolic pads, as well as Physicians Choice formula products.

Question: What nutritional supplements should I take?

Answer: We recommend a package of products including minerals, vitamins oxygenating pills, coenzyme Q-10 and anti-aging products for patients undergoing a facial rejuvenation treatment. This advice is applicable to all patients whether undergoing a mild power peel or a more profound peel with the CO2 laser. The use of these products and supplements for cigarette smokers is mandatory prior to undergoing any type facial treatments. We prefer Body Wise products. The details of each individuals skin condition can be outlined during the consultation with the aesthetician. Again for individuals with a history of “fever blisters”

pretreatment with anti-viral agents is mandatory and is prescribed by the physician.
